Access to UC Davis Licensed Resources Using a non-UC Davis Internet Service Provider

Instructions for setting up a proxy in Netscape (Windows)

1. Select "Preferences" from the "Edit" menu of the browser toolbar
   
   
   
   
   
2. Expand the category labeled "Advanced" by clicking on the arrow ( ) or plus ( + ) sign to the left of "Advanced"
   
   
   
   
   
3. Click once on the label "Proxies" to select the "Proxies Pane"
   
   
   
   
   
4. Click on the radio button labeled "Automatic Proxy Configuration URL"
   
   
   
   
   
5. Enter the following URL into the field labeled "Automatic Proxy Configuration URL":
        http://www.lib.ucdavis.edu/proxy/pacserve
   
   WARNING: If using Copy and Paste to enter this address - be sure there is NO space in front of the http
   
   
   
   
   
6. Click the button labeled "Reload"
   
   
   
   
   
7. Click the button labeled "OK"
   
   
   
   
   
8. You have now successfully completed the proxy setup. Exit Netscape and restart it to force Netscape to use the new settings.

Removing the proxy setting:

1. Select "Preferences" from the "Edit" menu of the browser toolbar
2. Expand the category labeled "Advanced" by clicking on the plus sign
3. Click once on the label "Proxies" to select the "Proxies Pane"
4. Click on the radio button labeled "Direct connection to the Internet"
5. Click the radio buttion labeled "OK"
6. You have now successfully removed the proxy setup
